JAMB Issues New Admission Rules for NCE Programmes

Nigeria’s tertiary admission system is tightening controls, as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) rolls out new rules for NCE and agriculture-related diploma programmes.

The changes, announced for the 2026/2027 academic session, affect Colleges of Education and non-technology ND programmes nationwide.

In a statement, the <a href=”https://www.jamb.gov.ng”>Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board</a> said the new framework will improve transparency and reduce irregularities in admissions.

Registrar Prof. Is-haq Oloyede said the policy targets better verification and a more structured admission process.

He said, “The new framework is aimed at streamlining admissions, strengthening verification processes, and ensuring transparency across Colleges of Education nationwide.”

Direct NCE Route Now Mandatory

Under the new system, all admissions into Colleges of Education must go through the NCE route.

JAMB has ended the previous method where candidates entered affiliated degree programmes through 100 or 200 level.

Candidates seeking such placements must now follow the updated procedures set by the board.

This shift is designed to standardise entry paths and close gaps that allowed inconsistencies in admissions.

O’Level Verification And Registration Process

A key part of the reform is mandatory verification of O’Level results.

Candidates must now confirm their results through WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or NBAIS before completing registration.

JAMB said, “The verification process is designed to eliminate the submission of fake or unverifiable results.”

Applicants must obtain verification codes from these bodies as part of the process.

To register, candidates must first generate a Profile Code using their National Identification Number.

They will then create a profile on the JAMB portal, make payments, and complete registration at accredited centres.

These include CBT centres, Professional Registration Centres, and institutional registration units in Colleges of Education.

With these measures, JAMB is tightening oversight and improving credibility across Nigeria’s admission system.
