WAFCON: Clash of the Titans as 4 Nations Battle in Semi-finals

The stage is set for fire and flair in Morocco as the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) reaches its semi-final heat on Tuesday.

All eyes will be on Casablanca at 4pm (GMT), where Nigeria’s Super Falcons face old foes and defending champions South Africa. Later at 7pm, hosts Morocco lock horns with underdogs Ghana in Rabat.

The stakes are high. The prize money has doubled to $1 million. A new trophy has been unveiled. History is knocking.

Nigeria’s Mission X Faces Banyana Test

Nigeria came into this tie breathing fire after a ruthless 5–0 demolition of Zambia. It was their boldest statement yet.

“They showed who the African giant really is,” former striker Desire Oparanozie said.

With nine WAFCON titles already, Nigeria is gunning for a tenth—dubbed “Mission X.”

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was clear: “Big games define Nigeria. We hope to keep this mentality.”

South Africa, however, is not backing down.

They reached this stage after a gruelling penalty shootout win over Senegal. Coach Desiree Ellis knows her team is bruised but not broken.

“One hundred and twenty minutes with a day less to prepare takes a lot out of you,” she admitted.

“But I don’t have enough words to describe this team: the resilience, the courage, the never-say-die attitude.”

Oparanozie believes this will be Nigeria’s biggest hurdle.

“The rivalry has been on for years. South Africa seemed to be the only team that could stop us.”

Atlas Lionesses Aim to Roar Again

Meanwhile, Morocco is dreaming of another final, two years after falling just short.

They brushed aside Mali 3–1 and now return home to a roaring crowd at the 21,000-seat Olympic Stadium.

“The public has helped us from the first moment,” said coach Jorge Vilda. “We hope it will be the same in the semi-final.”

Ghana, however, will not bow easily. They reached the last four for the first time since 2016 after edging Algeria on penalties.

Their Swedish coach, Kim Lars Bjorkegren, isn’t intimidated by the crowd.

“If we score, the boost will be huge,” he said. “We know they have quality, but like all teams, they have their weaknesses.”

Moroccan journalist Saad Moufakkir believes coach Vilda has transformed the team since arriving from Spain.

“We are confident we can finish games earlier,” he said. “With this coach, we can attack from the wings, go through the middle, or press high. We have options.”

Can Ghana pull a surprise, or will Morocco return to the final in front of their fans? And will Nigeria’s “Mission X” survive the Banyana wall? Let’s hear your predictions in the comments.
