La Liga Boss Declares War on Club World Cup Format

Spanish La Liga president Javier Tebas has once again voiced fierce opposition to FIFA’s expanded Club World Cup, saying he will resist its return with all his might.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Tebas didn’t hold back.

“I will do everything in my power to ensure that the Club World Cup is never held again,” he said firmly.

Tebas has repeatedly criticised the format since FIFA announced its plans for a 32-team tournament to be held every four years. He sees it as an attack on the health of domestic leagues.

Each club participating in the competition is guaranteed at least $15 million, making the event highly attractive to major football brands around the world.

Tebas Accuses FIFA of Disrupting Domestic Football

Despite Spain’s Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid agreeing to forgo their summer rest and participate in this year’s tournament, Tebas remains defiant.

He believes the Club World Cup disrupts national league schedules, strains players, and creates unfair advantages for wealthier clubs.

Tebas has warned that he will use legal avenues and institutional pressure to fight what he calls FIFA’s “threat to competitive balance.”

The standoff between La Liga and world football’s governing body could escalate, especially as more clubs sign up to FIFA’s expanding project.

Whether FIFA backs down or finds a compromise remains uncertain, but tensions are far from over.

Quarter-Finals Set as Club World Cup Pushes Ahead

While the resistance from La Liga brews, the tournament itself moves forward.

Borussia Dortmund secured a tight win over Monterrey in the round of 16, sealing the last spot in the quarter-finals.

In the next stage, Fluminense will take on Al Hilal.

Saturday’s line-up features blockbuster clashes: Palmeiras vs Chelsea, PSG vs Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid vs Dortmund.

Despite the noise, fans around the world remain glued to the action, even as La Liga’s chief seeks to pull the plug on future editions.
