Super Eagles Threat Over as FG Fastrack FX Bonuses Payment

The Federal Government has moved to resolve the controversy over unpaid bonuses for the Super Eagles at the ongoing AFCON 2025, with the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, announcing that payments are now being fast-tracked through a streamlined foreign exchange process.

Reports went viral on Wednesday claiming players had threatened to boycott training ahead of their next match due to delays in receiving bonuses.

In a statement shared on her official X handle Thursday, Uzoka-Anite said the government, working with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), had simplified the FX conversion process to ensure faster and more predictable disbursements.

“The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria have successfully streamlined the foreign exchange processing to ensure our players are rewarded without further delay,” she wrote.

The minister said progress already made in the disbursement process.

“All group-stage bonuses were fully released and have now cleared the necessary regulatory stages,” she said.

On accelerating payments, she explained: “We have implemented a fast-track conversion process to move funds into foreign currency, honouring the players’ preferences.”

She added that final transfers to players’ domiciliary accounts were “currently in flight” and that funds should reflect “starting today or tomorrow.”

Uzoka-Anite stressed that the government’s priority remains the welfare of the national team as they advance to the knockout rounds.

“Our focus remains entirely on supporting the team’s welfare so they can maintain their incredible momentum,” she said.

She concluded with optimism: “We move forward with one goal: Bringing the trophy home!”
