FAAN Clarifies Position On Uber And Bolt At Airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has responded to growing concerns about the operations of e-hailing services such as Uber and Bolt at airports.

In a statement, FAAN said its position was not to stop passengers from using e-hailing platforms but to ensure they operate within a framework that guarantees safety, security, accountability, and convenience.

FAAN explained: “Our position is not, and has never been, directed at limiting passengers’ access to transportation options or undermining the role of e-hailing services.”

It said airports are highly regulated environments, and all commercial transport services must provide visibility over their vehicles and drivers. This ensures effective coordination in case of security or passenger-related incidents.

FAAN clarified that its ACHRAMS platform is not an e-hailing app and does not compete with Uber or Bolt.

Instead, ACHRAMS was developed to provide operational visibility and tracking within airports, while also managing concession charges.

The Authority said complaints about passenger solicitation and touting made it necessary to establish a clear framework for managing transport activities at airports.

Ongoing Talks with Operators

FAAN confirmed it is engaging with e-hailing companies to create a workable framework. The discussions focus on passenger pick-ups, operational visibility, and accountability.

It said the current situation should not be seen as a blanket ban on e-hailing services but as part of an alignment process to meet airport safety and security requirements.

FAAN acknowledged the convenience Uber and Bolt provide to travellers. It also recognised passenger concerns about possible disruptions while talks continue.

The Authority said it was keen to conclude discussions quickly and remained confident of reaching a mutually acceptable agreement.

It reiterated: “Our actions are guided by one overriding consideration: to protect passengers while providing them with a safe, secure, orderly and seamless airport experience.”
