Abia LP Reps Members Formally Collect Nomination Forms

Five members of the House of Representatives from [suspicious link removed] formally collected their nomination forms on Friday, May 15, in preparation for the party primaries and the 2027 election cycle.

This event happened at the Labour Party secretariat in Umuahia. The group includes Hon. Ginger Onwusibe and Hon. Obi Aguocha, who both represent key constituencies.

Furthermore, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, and Hon. Alex Ikwechegh Mascot also received their documents for the upcoming polls.

They were all elected in 2023 during the “Obidient Tsunami” – the political support movement for Peter Obi, then the party’s presidential candidate, that swept many previously unknown politicians in Nigeria into office.

The Labour Party rose to power in Abia during the 2023 general elections. This followed the victory of Governor Alex Otti, the only LP governor in Nigeria.

Consequently, the party leadership sees this as a sign of stability. They believe it shows the confidence of serving lawmakers in the current administrative direction of the state.

Initially, many people doubted the party could hold its ground against older rivals. However, these lawmakers are now preparing for another round of voting to keep their seats.

State Chairman Hon. Peter Azubuike said that the party is determined to ensure that all processes leading to the primaries are conducted peacefully. This is a top priority.

He added that the party remains focused on sustaining the confidence of the people. This is done through responsible and people-oriented governance across all levels.

Internal Democracy and Candidate Selection Processes

Publicity Secretary Iroegbu Emenike signed the official statement. He said that the momentum within the political organisation continues to grow steadily across the entire region.

“The development further reflects the growing unity, stability, and confidence within the Labour Party family in Abia State,” the statement explained about the lawmakers.

Moreover, the party confirmed that other interested aspirants are still picking up forms. This covers various elective positions for the state and federal legislative houses.

The party promised to follow its own constitutional procedures. They want every candidate to go through a fair and inclusive screening process before the primary elections.

Meanwhile, the lawmakers will now proceed with the completion and submission of their forms. They must follow the laid down guidelines of the Labour Party carefully.

Party officials say they are committed to transparency. They want to avoid the chaotic primaries that often occur in some other political organisations in the country.

Hon. Peter Azubuike gave an assurance to supporters. He said that the party would continue to respect the wishes and aspirations of the people during this period.

Consolidating Gains Ahead of the Next Election Cycle

Abia was previously a stronghold for the People’s Democratic Party. The 2023 shift changed the political map of the South East geopolitical zone significantly.

Since then, Governor Otti has implemented several infrastructure projects. The party believes this record will help the lawmakers keep their seats in the Green Chamber.

The leadership appreciates the continued loyalty of its stakeholders. They believe this cooperation is key to the continued growth and success of the party in the state.

Hon. Peter Azubuike spoke on the recent development. He said that the party is sustaining the confidence reposed in it by the people of Abia through its leadership style.

He also stated that the party conducts its activities in a credible and inclusive manner. This helps maintain a peaceful environment for all members during the selection.

Finally, the party thanked supporters for their commitment. They promised to maintain fairness throughout all pre-election activities and upcoming screening processes in Umuahia.
