The United States Air Force has officially inducted Nigeria’s Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, into the International Honor Roll Class of 2026.

The International Honor Roll is a long-standing tradition of the US Air University. It serves to strengthen bonds between the United States and its international military partners.

To qualify, an officer must have attended the Air War College and later risen to become a service chief in their home country.

Academic Excellence and Professional Growth

Air Marshal Aneke has a deep history with the institution. He attended the Air War College at Air University in 2016.

During his time there, he was a member of Seminar 7. This period of study provided the advanced strategic training necessary for top-level command.

Air Marshal Aneke was formally inducted on 10 April 2026 alongside 15 other Air Chiefs and 2 Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force equivalents from across the world.

The Air War College is the senior professional military education school of the US Air Force. It prepares officers to lead in a complex global security environment.

By reaching the pinnacle of his career, Aneke proved the value of this training. The Nigerian Air Force explained the specific intent behind the ceremony.

The ceremony was specially designed to recognise senior Air Force officers who have risen to the pinnacle of their professional careers as Air Chiefs.

This induction is a testament to his personal dedication. Furthermore, it reflects the high standard of leadership within the Nigerian military today.

Heritage Visits and Diplomatic Engagements

The induction programme went beyond the military base. Participants were invited to engage with the cultural and legal heritage of Alabama.

Governor Kay Ivey hosted the Air Chiefs at the Governor’s Mansion. This visit allowed the leaders to discuss shared values in a formal, civilian setting.

The participants were received by Governor Kay Ivey before proceeding on a series of heritage and institutional visits to the Alabama Supreme Court.

They also toured the Air University Library and the Enlisted Heritage Museum. Meanwhile, the group visited the SNCO Academy at Gunter Annex to see how the US trains its non-commissioned officers.

These visits help international leaders understand the foundations of the US military system. It also builds trust between the different nations represented.

The Nigerian Air Force stated that these engagements show the importance of international ties, as they are vital for modern air power and global stability.

Nigeria has frequently collaborated with the US on military training. This relationship often involves the sale of advanced aircraft and joint counter-terrorism exercises.
