Boxing: Usyk Knocks Out Dubois in Round 5 to Regain Undisputed Heavyweight Title
Oleksandr Usyk reclaimed his place at the top of the boxing world with a dominant fifth-round knockout victory over Daniel Dubois on Saturday, July 19, at Wembley Stadium, London.
The Ukrainian boxer, now 38 years old, floored Dubois with a combination of a powerful left hook and an overhand right, ending the match at 1:52 of the fifth round. With the win, Usyk remains undefeated (24-0) and regains the undisputed heavyweight title, unifying the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF belts.
Usyk entered the ring at his heaviest weight ever (227.3 lbs) but showcased his trademark speed, ring IQ, and footwork, outclassing the bigger Dubois throughout the short contest.
The British fighter, Daniel Dubois, 27, had promised a stronger showing after their first controversial meeting, but struggled to break Usyk’s rhythm. He was dropped twice before the final blow.
Usyk said after the fight:
“I want to rest. Two or three months. 38 is a young guy!”
The win further solidifies Usyk’s place among boxing’s modern greats.
