Kwara State security forces have flooded the Ifelodun and Isin local government areas (LGAs) today, Monday, March 23, 2026 with heavy deployment following a high-level terrorist alert that warned of planned attacks in Kwara South.

Military and police units arrived in large numbers to secure these communities.

Their presence is part of a coordinated effort to prevent a repeat of the tragic violence seen earlier this year in other parts of the state.

The Punch reported that a socio-cultural group first shared the intelligence about these threats. Consequently, the state government acted quickly to protect lives and properties in the region.

Operation Savanna Shield Expands To Kwara South

Security officials said that they are using both air and ground patrols to monitor the thick forests in these areas. This strategy seeks to flush out any criminal elements hiding in the bushes.

“We have received credible reports of unusual movements around our borders,” a security source stated. “Our men are currently on the ground to ensure that no inch of Kwara territory is compromised,” they added.

Furthermore, the state government alleged that these groups want to create panic among the residents. Therefore, the authorities have set up new checkpoints along major roads to search suspicious vehicles.

Local leaders in Ifelodun and Isin expressed relief at the sight of the security teams. However, they also asked for more long-term help to keep their farmers safe during the planting season.

It is common knowledge that Kwara has faced serious challenges from extremist groups recently. Earlier this February, a battalion was sent to Kaiama after a devastating attack in that axis.

This development is comforting because, when the government reacts this quickly to threats, it helps prevent the kind of mass deaths we have seen in the past.
