The Nigeria Women’s Cricket Team, known as the Female Yellow Greens, is currently sweeping through the 2026 Nigeria Invitational Women’s T20I Tournament.

The team has secured back-to-back dominant victories against top African contenders at the Dimplediva Scent arena in Lagos.

On Sunday, March 22, 2026, the Nigerian side crushed Ghana Women by a massive 136 runs.

This followed another clinical performance on Friday where they defeated the Zimbabwe Women U-19 team by 8 wickets with over 50 balls to spare.

The Nigerian team is now sitting comfortably at the top of the tournament table. The squad has shown incredible growth in both their batting and bowling departments over the last 48 hours.

Masterclass Performance Leads To Unbeaten Streak

Usen Peace has emerged as the standout star of the tournament so far. She earned the “Player of the Match” award in both games for her exceptional bowling spells and tight economy rates.

In the match against Ghana, Nigeria posted a formidable 159/4 in 20 overs before bowling out their opponents for just 23 runs.

“Our focus was to play basic cricket and stick to the plans we discussed in the dressing room,” Usen Peace stated after her second trophy win.

Captain Etim Blessing noted that the team’s energy is at an all-time high as they prepare for the tougher rounds ahead.

“We are playing for the fans and for the pride of the nation on our home soil,” she added during the post-match interview.

Furthermore, the team alleged that their intensive training camp in Rwanda earlier this year is finally paying off.

They are now playing with a level of confidence that has rarely been seen in West African female cricket.

The tournament features five nations, including Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and a visiting South African development side. However, Nigeria is currently the team to beat as they look to secure the gold trophy by the end of the week.

Nigerian sports are growing beyond just football, and with the right funding, our women can dominate the continent in any athletic field they choose.

Success in cricket also brings more international eyes to our local sports facilities and infrastructure.

This creates new opportunities for young girls across the country to dream of professional sports careers outside the traditional paths.

So, should the government invest more money into “minority” sports like cricket to discover more hidden talents like Usen Peace, and keep our youths meaningfully engaged?
