UEFA Champions League: Monaco Snatch Late 2-2 Draw Against Man City

Monaco and Manchester City played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in their UEFA Champions League clash at Stade Louis II last night.

City struck first in the 14th minute when Josko Gvardiol’s chipped pass found Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker deftly flicked the ball over the defense and chipped it past Philipp Köhn to make it 1-0.

Monaco responded almost instantly. In the 17th minute, Dutch full-back Jordan Teze curled a stunning equalizer into the top corner, sending home fans into wild celebration.

City regained the lead before halftime when teenage midfielder Nico O’Reilly delivered a precise cross. Haaland rose highest and powered in a header in the 44th minute, his second goal of the night. The teams went into the break with City ahead 2-1.

Second Half Drama

The second half was full of tension. Phil Foden rattled the bar with a curling effort while Tijjani Reijnders struck the woodwork from distance. City were forced into a change when Rodri limped off after a heavy collision, raising concerns about his availability for their next fixtures.

Monaco pressed harder in front of their home crowd. Midfielder Maghnes Akliouche tested Gianluigi Donnarumma with a sharp drive around the hour mark, but the City goalkeeper stood firm.

As the game entered stoppage time, a scramble inside the box from a Monaco free-kick brought drama. VAR spotted Nico González’s high boot on Eric Dier. The referee pointed to the spot, and Dier calmly slotted home the 90th-minute penalty to secure a 2-2 draw.

Reactions From Both Camps

Monaco coach Adi Hütter praised his players’ resilience. “Our fight got us this point, we never stopped believing,” he said after the match.

Pep Guardiola remained upbeat despite conceding late. “It was a great game. We played well, took a point, and we move forward,” the City boss remarked.
