French superstar Kylian Mbappé delivered a moment of brilliance in extra time as Real Madrid edged Borussia Dortmund 3–2 in a pulsating FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinal, setting up a mouthwatering semifinal clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

It was a night filled with drama, quality football, and nerve-wracking moments — and Nigerian fans watching from home had every reason to stay glued till the final whistle.

Madrid took early control of the game, looking every bit like the 15-time UEFA Champions League winners they are.

In the 10th minute, rising star Gonzalo García finished brilliantly after a pinpoint cross from Turkish youngster Arda Güler. Just ten minutes later, England’s Trent Alexander-Arnold set up Fran García to make it 2–0.

But the real drama came in added time.

Maximilian Beier sparked hopes of a Dortmund comeback in the 92nd minute, finishing smartly inside the box. Just as it seemed like the Germans might force extra time, Mbappé stepped up with an outrageous overhead kick, reminding the world why he’s considered one of the best players of this generation.

There was more to come. Real Madrid went down to 10 men when defender Dean Huijsen received a red card for a foul on Serhou Guirassy in the box. Guirassy slotted home the penalty to make it 3–2 in the 98th minute.

But thanks to a world-class save from Thibaut Courtois in the final seconds, Madrid held on to seal the win.
