Super Falcons Move from Lisbon to Casablanca Ahead of WAFCON

The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed the Super Falcons will leave Lisbon and arrive in Casablanca on Wednesday to continue preparations for the delayed 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

They will face Ghana’s Black Queens in a final warm-up friendly on Sunday, June 29.

The Falcons arrived in Lisbon just a day before their friendly against Portugal on Monday, June 23. Despite limited prep time, they held a team ranked 14 places above them to a 0‑0 draw.

“Their goalkeeper was in sparkling form,” said one analyst.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made several world‑class saves that kept the Falcons in the match. Francisca Ordega rattled the crossbar late in the game, nearly clinching a win.

Final Prep in Morocco Before WAFCON Kickoff

The team will continue training in Casablanca before the friendly against Ghana on June 29.

The Falcons will remain in Casablanca during the tournament, grouped with Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria, with their opener against Tunisia on July 6 at Larbi Zaouli Stadium.

Nigeria enters WAFCON as nine‑time champions and the only team to ever defend a title at the tournament. They seek a record‑extending 10th crown with renewed belief after the Lisbon draw.

Francisca Ordega nearly punished Portugal, but the crossbar denied the Super Falcons of Nigeria

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade urged full support and noted the team was confident. Meanwhile, NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi announced a “Mission X” campaign to rally support from fans at home and abroad.

Expert Insight and Tournament Outlook

Defensive solidity was a key takeaway from the encounter with Portugal. Coach Justine Madugu praised the resilience and organization in defence.

Stars like Nnadozie, Ohale, Ordega, and Ajibade returned to camp during these buildup games to tune the squad.

The female world cup trophy

The Falcons have built momentum with friendlies. With one match left against Ghana, they hope to fine-tune ahead of group clashes.

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, current champions, present serious competition, but Nigeria’s record shows they thrive under pressure.
