Wanda Metropolitano hosted yet another tantalizing clash between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, with no shortage of goals, red cards, and fan antics.
The game was largely overshadowed by the actions of the Atletico fans, who threw a bag full of objects at the Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, sparking an inflammatory reaction from the away side.

Both sides were solid in defense for the duration of the first half, with Federico Valverde’s effort denied by Jan Oblak, while Julian Alvarez’s low shot was saved by Thibaut Courtois.
The second looked to be quite as entertaining as the first, with Rodryo flying his effort when he was left unmarked after a corner was taken.

Real did break the deadlock, with Eder Militao’s half-volley smashed into the net following a cross from Vinicius Junior, albeit the effort was helped in by Marcus Llorente’s leg.
This was shortly followed by the incident with Atleti fans and Thibaut Courtois, with even lighter thrown at the goalkeeper, forcing the game to come to a halt for about five minutes.
Atletico Madrid, spurred by the home crowd, pushed for an equalizer. Manager Diego Simeone’s inspired decision to bring on Angel Correa for Conor Gallagher paid off in the dying moments of the match. Correa latched onto a pass and slotted it past Courtois in the 95th minute, sending the Wanda Metropolitano into raptures and leveling the score.

The drama didn’t end there. Just minutes after the equalizer, Atletico’s Marcus Llorente was shown a red card for a reckless scissor tackle on Real’s Fran Garcia, reducing the home side to ten men.
With this result, Real Madrid remains second in La Liga with 18 points, trailing league leaders FC Barcelona by three points. Atletico Madrid, still in contention, sit in third place with 16 points, two points behind their city rivals.

The match has made people worried about security and sportsmanship in such high-stakes encounters. As the Madrid derby continues, both teams will look ahead to their next fixtures, but the shadow of fan conduct looms large over an otherwise captivating game.
