A priest in Colombia escaped with minor injuries after a large wooden cross fell on his head inside a church, according to a video circulating on X.
The clip surfaced just days after a Catholic priest in Ecuador died when a crucifix fell on him during a livestreamed Mass.
The video purportedly shows the priest approaching the cross to move it, apparently for maintenance. The structure then gives way and strikes him, sending him to the ground.
The post accompanying the clip alleged he survived with a minor injury. However, there has been no official confirmation of the video’s origin, exact location, church, or the priest’s identity .
Ecuador Death Sparks Comparisons
The Colombian incident comes after Father Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari died on October 17 in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He was parish priest at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help .
Sánchez Molinari was delivering a sermon when a large crucifix detached from the wall behind him and struck him.
The Mass was being livestreamed on Facebook. Parishioners screamed and rushed to help, but he was declared dead the same day .
The Archdiocese of Guayaquil confirmed his death in a statement. He belonged to the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, a Catholic order founded in 1732
In the Ecuador case, it remains unclear what caused the crucifix to fall. Local authorities did not immediately comment.
For the Colombia video, the lack of verified details has left key questions unanswered.
It is unknown when or where the incident occurred, or whether the priest required medical treatment beyond the alleged minor injury .
Meanwhile, the viral spread of both clips has prompted comparisons online. Some users questioned whether poor maintenance played a role in either case.
The Ecuador archdiocese has not publicly explained the cause of the collapse. The Rev. Sánchez Molinari was 53 years old.
