The Interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly rejected any suggestion that genuine members of the party should support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
In a press statement issued on 20 October 2026, National Publicity Secretary Comrade Ini Ememobong dismissed reports attributed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that PDP candidates should collapse their structures and back the incumbent.
Ememobong stated that the minister’s message was not directed at real PDP members.
He said the message was meant for persons who, like Wike, “are pretenders in the opposition but are working for the governing party.”
The true and principled members of the Peoples Democratic Party are not part of the shameless, self-serving support for the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government and its destructive policies, the statement declared.
Opposition Must Provide Alternative
The paramount duty of the opposition is to provide an alternative to the incumbent, not to massage their ego, Ememobong argued.
If opposition parties are to form any alliance, it will be amongst themselves and not with the governing party, he insisted.
He described the so-called “rainbow coalition” as a political anomaly that poses the greatest threat to electoral democracy and the fastest way of railroading the country into an electoral monarchy.
The Interim National Working Committee urged all true and faithful members of the Peoples Democratic Party to remain steadfast while awaiting the judiciary’s decision on the party’s leadership crisis.
“Our case at the Court of Appeal has been heard, and we await judgment”, Ememobong said.
He added that the entire judiciary is conscious that “justice delayed is justice denied”.
“Nigerians should be wary of elite accommodation and state capture masquerading as broad-based political collaboration,” the statement warned.
“The election next year provides a great opportunity to vote out these insensitive and irresponsible political actors,” it concluded.
The statement was signed by Comrade Ini Ememobong on behalf of the Interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party.
