Broda Shaggi: Stray Bullet Kept Me Away for Months

Nollywood actor and comedian Samuel Perry, known as Broda Shaggi, says a stray bullet injury kept him off work for months and left him afraid fans would forget him.

He shared the story in a YouTube video on Wednesday night.

The video confirmed an earlier report that he was shot while filming a comedy skit under the Sango-Ota bridge in March 2026.

Shaggi said the shooting happened during a routine brand activation job.

He recalled bleeding, sweating and praying as he was rushed to hospital.

“I was totally unconscious till I got to the hospital. So, I didn’t even know how we got to the hospital. But one thing I could remember was me praying till we got to the first hospital where first aid was administered,” he said.

Fear of Losing His Audience

The injury left him unsure about his career. Dancing, singing and physical performance are central to his work, so a long recovery raised doubts.

Shaggi said watching colleagues post content made him emotional.

“There were moments where I would see videos of my colleagues. I would laugh and sometimes I would just start to cry because I wasn’t sure if I would still be able to do all these things they doing again,” he said.

He said his schedule had been relentless since 2018. During his hospital stay, he tried to stay productive by writing and starting a YouTube series.

Surgery in Nigeria and Dubai

Shaggi had surgery in Nigeria, then travelled to Dubai for more treatment and physiotherapy on advice.

He said recovery improved after the Dubai operation, and he stood with support on the second day and walked with crutches on the third.

He now stands without crutches but still uses them for support. He said he is grateful the bullet hit his hip, not his head or another vital organ.

“It was a stray bullet and it came this way to my hip. What if it had come this way and hit my head or hit any vital organ?” he said.

Shaggi called surviving a second chance and promised new projects.

“I’m grateful to be alive. It’s second chance. You should also be grateful to have Shaggy back on your screen because right now I’m coming with exciting projects,” he said.

The Ogun State Police Command said in March it could not confirm whether the shooting happened within its jurisdiction.
