In exchange for endorsing Governor Peter Mbah and President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office in 2027, Enugu State’s tricycle operators have had their ₦750 daily ticket scrapped by the government, and their operating hours extended to 10 pm.
The endorsements came on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Okpara Square, Enugu, during the climax of a “One Million March” event organised by the Tricycle Riders Association of Enugu State.
The association’s state chairman, Comrade Kingsley Edeh, said the decision rested on achievements that have touched the lives and businesses of riders and their families.
“Which will we reel out and leave the other? Is it the security and good roads, which now enable us to ply our trade without any problems, the 267 Smart Green Schools, the completion of long-abandoned projects such as the International Conference Centre, Nigergas Limited, Sunrise Four Mills, Hotel Presidential, and many more?” he asked.
Edeh also cited federal projects in the South East, including the Enugu–Onitsha Road, Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, New Artisan Bridge and Obinagu Flyover.
“So, we will vote APC from top to bottom come 2027,” he declared
The association’s national secretary, Comrade Sunday Enang, described Mbah as a “magician” in governance, saying no governor had achieved as much in three years.
“Your ‘Tomorrow Is Here’ vision is evident in the construction of modern transport terminals, the establishment of Enugu Air, investment in an asphalt plant, intra- and inter-city road construction,” Enang said.
He also praised the policy allowing riders to use designated terminals without paying toll fees.
Mbah: No More Tickets, One More Hour
In response, Mbah called tricycle operators critical players in the state’s economy.
“You are the powerhouse of our economy because you set out early in the morning, working long hours, navigating traffic, taking our workers to work, taking our students to school,” he said.
He then announced the ticket removal. “The issue of tickets is sealed. No more tickets for you,” Mbah said.
The governor also lifted the operating limit from 9pm to 10pm, citing improved security after the end of sit-at-home orders.
Mbah promised to pave the remaining 1,022 urban roads across Emene, Abakpa, Idaw River, Trans-Ekulu, Awkunanaw, Coal Camp, New Haven, Thinkers Corner and Uwani
The governor warned that his administration would protect the state’s peace ahead of 2027.
“Nobody, no matter their ambition, will take that away from us. We have zero tolerance for violence,” he said.
He urged residents to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and vote for him, all APC candidates and President Tinubu.
