The body of Miss Favour OIuchukwu Okenyi, a 100-level student of the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, was found in a drainage by Eni Njoku male hostel of the institution.
No definite details exist concerning activities that led to this occurrence, but the school authorities have launched investigations to determine what happened.
The deceased’s body was found on Friday, July 5, by a passersby along the drainage system by the hostel, then alerted authorities.
The school released a condolence statement yesterday addressing the public and the deceased family. It expressed deep grief at the tragic situation and promised it will stop at nothing to unravel the circumstances of the gruesome occurrence.
The institution’s statement released by its Acting Public Relations Officer, Mr Okwun Omeaku, said, “The university community was shocked on Friday, July 5, by the distressing discovery of a lifeless body found in a drainage near the Akanu Ibiam Stadium, UNN.“
The statement continued, “The university administration is deeply saddened by the loss of our student and extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased for the tragic death of such a promising young student.
“The management is collaborating with security agencies and the family of the deceased to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death and to prevent any potential recurrence of such incidents in the future.”

Miss Favour reportedly went missing after attending a chemistry practical days earlier.
