Fubara Writes Rivers People, Bows Out of APC Governorship Primaries

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has pulled out of the APC governorship primaries in Rivers State after what he described as deep reflection and wide consultations.

In a letter to supporters, the governor said the decision was difficult but necessary for the peace and unity of the state.

He said Rivers State must come before personal ambition.

After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC gubernatorial primaries,” he said.

Leadership is ultimately about sacrifice. There comes a time when personal ambition must yield to the greater good of the people.

Fubara said he would support whoever emerges as the APC candidate.

He thanked his supporters for their time, prayers and loyalty.

He said their sacrifices were not wasted, even if the decision would disappoint many of them.

To my supporters who stood firmly with me throughout this journey… I offer my deepest gratitude,” he wrote.

He also said his silence during the period was deliberate and guided by what he called the higher interest of Rivers people.

Fubara added that some of the truths around the process were better left unsaid.

He said his love for Rivers State was greater than any pressure he faced.

Message To APC And Tinubu

The governor thanked his party, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), for the platform it gave him.

He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support and encouragement.

I sincerely thank our great party, the All Progressives Congress, for the platform and support extended to me throughout this process,” he said.

He said he remained committed to serving Rivers State until the end of his term.

He also said his withdrawal was not a sign of fear or surrender, but a sacrifice made for peace and unity.

The letter ends with a direct appeal for party unity and stability in Rivers State.

The APC remains our collective home,” he said.

The announcement now changes the tone of the Rivers governorship race and may reshape the party’s internal calculations ahead of the primaries.
