Former Cross River governor Donald Duke is one of three presidential aspirants cleared by the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of its nationwide primary on Monday, May 25, 2026.
The party announced the clearances in Abuja on Saturday.
PRP National Publicity Secretary Muhammed Ishaq said Duke, Nnaoke Ufere of Abia and Yakubu Kingsley of Edo agreed to submit their candidacies to party members across all wards.
The statement followed agency reports and an internal screening process.
“The PRP takes pride in the calibre of its aspirants, whose dedication to democratic principles and commitment to teamwork have further strengthened our party,” the statement said.
Duke, who governed Cross River from 1999 to 2007, joins a field that the PRP says includes more than 260 aspirants contesting various elective posts.
The party planned ward‑by‑ward voting where consensus failed, aiming for a transparent nomination exercise.
The PRP said cleared aspirants committed to accept the outcome and respect internal procedures. The party described the exercise as free, credible, and nationwide, with results to be decided at the grassroots across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
Donald Duke is known for his two‑term governorship (1999–2007) and state‑level development projects in Cross River.
His clearance gives the PRP a high‑profile face ahead of 2027 but real influence will depend on party cohesion and post‑primary coalitions.
