Confirmed: It Is Peter Obi For Atiku’s Running Mate

Credible sources have confirmed that PDP presidential candidate, Alh. Atiku Abubakar may have chosen Mr. Peter Obi as his running mate.

Below is a tweet from the verified handle of Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, a chieftain of the PDP and a longstanding ally of Abubakar Atiku.

The choice of Atiku’s running mate has been the subject of much speculations in the polity since Atiku’s October 7 victory at the PDP primaries in the oil-rich city of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Mr. Obi, himself, a harvard-trained economist, was the governor of Anambra State between 2006-2014, and is considered one of the best performing governors of his era in Nigeria. During his tenure, the State made remarkable strides in education and infrastructure, and the relative fiscal stability of the State compared to other States is credited largely to the foundations he laid for disciplined and business-like approach to fiscal management of the State.

Obi has cut a relationship with the youths and often feature in speaking engagements in youth fora such as the annual The Platform – a political discussion workshop/conference hosted by ‘Poju Oyemade of Covenant Christian Centre, Lagos. His appeal with the youths, his tights fiscal philosophy and track record as governor, and the fact that he comes from the Eastern part of Nigeria, favored by political calculations for the post, may have influenced the choice of him as Atiku’s VP.

But there has been permutations whether the PDP running mate should come from the southwest which boosts of the second highest population of voters, next to the northwest.
