Troops of the Nigerian Army, working with other security agencies, have arrested 46 suspected illegal immigrants in Ogun State. The operation was carried out by the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, during a targeted security sweep.

Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Major Idereghi Samuel Akari, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued in Abeokuta. He said the suspects were picked up at Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese, and nearby communities during an operation that began on June 11, 2026.

Those arrested include 18 nationals of Burkina Faso, 23 citizens of Côte d’Ivoire, four nationals of Togo, and one national of Senegal. Among them are 36 males and 10 females.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the individuals had been residing in the state for approximately six months without valid immigration documentation,” Akari said.

He added that during interrogation, the suspects claimed to be merchants and workers affiliated with QNet, an online marketing platform. They have since been handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) Ogun State Command for further investigation.

Army Commends Troops And Urges Vigilance

Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu, praised the professionalism of the troops and collaborating agencies. He said the operation showed the commitment of the Nigerian Army to safeguarding national interests.

Onu also called on residents to remain vigilant. “Report suspicious activities and individuals to relevant security agencies,” he advised.

The operation reflects ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army and security partners to combat illegal migration, strengthen internal security, and protect communities across Ogun State.
