Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 23 kidnapped passengers after a bandit attack along the Ayegunle–Bunu road in Kogi State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, when armed men blocked the road and abducted travellers.
According to an operational report released in Abuja, soldiers from the 12 Brigade in Kabba responded after receiving a distress call.
By the time troops arrived, the attackers had fled, leaving behind victims and damaged vehicles.
“On reaching the scene, the troops discovered two dead bodies, five injured victims.”
The report also confirmed that two Toyota buses and a HOWO truck were abandoned at the scene.
Troops quickly launched a pursuit operation, tracking the route taken by the kidnappers.
Victims Recovered, Search Continues
The military said sustained pressure forced the attackers to abandon some captives.
“The troops immediately launched pursuit operations… leading to the rescue of 23 passengers.”
The injured victims were taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Kabba for treatment.
Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to locate the fleeing suspects and rescue any remaining victims.
Kogi State has seen repeated attacks along major roads, with security forces increasing patrols in response.
The latest operation is part of ongoing military efforts to secure highways and protect travellers in the region.
