New Atletico Madrid signing Ademola Lookman marked a dream start with his new Spanish club on Thursday, scoring and assisting in the 5 – 0 rout of Real Betis during the Copa Del Rey quarter- finals.

Lookman, the 28-year-old Nigerian international, joined Atletico Madrid this month from Atalanta in a reported €35 million deal, signing a contract until 2030.

Thrust straight into action by coach Diego Simeone, he wasted no time making his mark on the pitch.

The winger opened his account in the 37th minute, controlling a swift counterattack before finishing past the Betis goalkeeper.

His goal doubled Atletico’s lead and set the tone for the rest of the match.

Beyond scoring, Lookman also assisted Antoine Griezmann’s goal in the 62nd minute, showing his ability to create as well as finish.

His pace, movement, and technical skill were clear throughout, and he quickly adapted to Simeone’s tactical setup.

Atletico’s dominance was evident from the start, with goals from David Hancko (12’), Giuliano Simeone (30’), Lookman (37’), Griezmann (62’), and Thiago Almada (83’) securing a comfortable victory and a place in the semi-finals.

After the match, Lookman described his debut as a “dream start” in Madrid, expressing excitement at helping the team advance and gratitude for the warm reception from teammates and fans.

Coach Simeone also praised his new signing, highlighting Lookman’s maturity, pace, and technical quality as key assets for the team moving forward.

With his debut performance, Ademola Lookman has immediately won over the Atletico faithful and positioned himself as a vital attacking option for the remainder of the season.
