President Bola Tinubu met on Monday with the newly appointed service chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national security framework.

The new military heads arrived at the Villa around 4 p.m. in a black Mercedes van escorted by a green Toyota Land Cruiser.

Those in attendance were Chief of Defence Staff, Lt-Gen Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Maj-Gen W. Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral I. Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke; and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Maj-Gen E.A.P. Undiendeye.

Their appointments, announced on Friday, October 24, marked one of Tinubu’s most significant military reshuffles since assuming office.

According to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the changes were made “in furtherance of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen the national security architecture.”

General Oluyede replaced General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, while Maj-Gen Shaibu, AVM Aneke, and Rear Admiral Abbas assumed command of the Army, Air Force, and Navy respectively. Maj-Gen Undiendeye retained his post as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” urging the new team to justify the confidence reposed in them. He charged them to sustain professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship across the Armed Forces.
