The Nigerian Army has announced fresh appointments and redeployments in a minor shake-up of its leadership.

The changes affect Principal Staff Officers (PSOs), General Officers Commanding (GOCs), and other senior commanders. The move, according to insiders, is part of routine adjustments to strengthen operations nationwide.

The appointments take effect between August 19 and August 25.

New Commanders Take Over

Major General Chinedu Nnebeife is now the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Ibadan. His counterpart, Major General ASK Wase, has been posted as the new GOC of 1 Division, Kaduna.

The Army confirmed that Major General M.O. Erebelu will serve as the new Provost Marshal, while Major General A.A. Idris assumes duty as the Chief of Military Intelligence (CMI).

At the Army headquarters, Major General A.A. Adeyinka is the new Chief of Logistics. Major General J.E. Osifo also retained his place as Director General of the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration (NASFA).

Major General Adetoba now leads the Nigerian Army College of Logistics Management (NACOLM), while Major General Ugiagbe, a former CMI, becomes Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation (CASE).

Army Expands Role at Home and Abroad

In the international space, Major General Akesode has been appointed to head the Monitoring, Verification and Compliance Mission in Ethiopia’s Tigray Region.

Back at home, cyber operations gained a boost as Major General M.T. Abdullahi was named Commander of the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Centre (NACWC).

Military watchers believe these changes are strictly military, not political, and reflect an effort to match leadership skills with emerging security threats and needs, including counter-insurgency, logistics, intelligence, and cyber defence.
