SDP Nominates Adewole Adebayo for 2027 Presidential Election

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially elected Prince Adewole Adebayo as its consensus presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The decision was reached during the party’s National Convention held in Bauchi on Saturday, May 9, 2026. This selection solidifies Adebayo’s position as a lead challenger.

Adebayo, a lawyer and media mogul, previously flew the party’s flag in 2023. He is now returning to the scene with a mission to address deep-seated national issues.

In his acceptance speech, he stated that he is ready to tackle hunger, homelessness, and insecurity. He believes the country is currently suffering from a severe leadership failure.

“Nigeria is not a private company. Nigeria belongs to Nigerians,” Adebayo declared before the cheering delegates at the Bauchi convention.

A Vision For National Productivity And Democracy

The candidate described his campaign as a movement to restore hope and defend the nation’s democracy. He believes the government must prioritize the people’s interests over elite gains.

Adebayo explained that his primary goal is to shift Nigeria from a state of poverty and division toward a future defined by productivity and national unity.

He stated, “I am deeply honoured to have emerged as the SDP Presidential Candidate for the 2027 election at our National Convention in Bauchi.”

This convention comes at a time when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is preparing for a pivotal election cycle.

The SDP, which rose to fame during the June 12, 1993 election, is positioning itself as a credible alternative to the major parties.

Building A New Nigeria For All Citizens

Prince Adebayo maintains that the future of the country is possible if citizens choose the right path. He intends to build a system that works for every Nigerian.

“Together, we will build a New Nigeria that works for everyone,” he promised. This message resonates with many who feel left behind by the current economic landscape.

The SDP’s choice of a consensus candidate is seen as a strategy to prevent internal friction. This allows the party to start its nationwide mobilization early.

As the race for 2027 heats up, Adebayo’s legal background and private-sector experience will likely be his selling point during the campaign.

He is likely to square off with Peter Obi, if he picks the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket next week, as the two other southerners in the race besides the incumbent, President Bola Tinubu.
