Obaze Warns Jonathan Cabal Attempting to Use Him Against Obi

Obaze Oseloka, former Secretary to the Anambra State Government and a close ally of Peter Obi, has cautioned ex‑President Goodluck Jonathan against considering a return to the presidency in 2027.

In a strongly worded statement on Saturday, Obaze postulated that Jonathan was being used by political cabals to block Obi and the South East from having a fair shot at the presidency.

“Please do not under any circumstance be lured or swayed by any individual, group or political party into seriously considering running again for the Nigerian presidency, especially in 2027. GEJ, please, don’t go there,” he wrote.

Obaze argued that Jonathan’s candidacy would serve the interests of the same cabals who once undermined his presidency.

“They are the same political cabals that betrayed you, destroyed your erstwhile presidency and hounded you out of office. What changed? Nothing!” he said.

He warned that Jonathan’s eligibility was fraught with constitutional controversy.

“In my simple, but not‑so‑legal mind, you are no longer eligible to contest. If you run and win, the same cabal will use the courts to abort your victory,” Obaze stated.

According to him, Jonathan’s candidacy is being positioned as a “default fourth option” by elites dissatisfied with the Tinubu‑Shettima ticket, wary of Obi’s one‑term proposal, and convinced no Northerner can win in 2027.

Appeal To Preserve Statesmanship

Obaze reminded Jonathan of the South East’s overwhelming support in 2011, when the region delivered 97.2% of its votes to secure his victory.

He warned that running in 2027 would alienate those supporters and “smack of ingratitude.”

He also cautioned that government institutions have been weaponized against opposition figures. “Don’t bet that they will not come after you if you ever decide to challenge the status quo,” he said.

Finally, Obaze urged Jonathan to protect his legacy.

“Your credentials as an elder statesman have grown exponentially both at home and abroad since you left office in 2015. Don’t alter that trajectory for no just cause. Your decision not to run will do more for nation‑building than the decision to run,” he concluded.
