Netflix has increased its subscription prices in Nigeria for the third time in less than a year. This marks its first price adjustment in 2025.
According to details on the company’s website, all four subscription plans have been adjusted upwards. The Premium plan now costs ₦8,500 monthly, up from ₦7,000. The Standard plan increased from ₦5,500 to ₦6,500.
The Basic plan now costs ₦4,000, compared to ₦3,500 previously. The Mobile plan, which targets smartphone users, rose from ₦2,200 to ₦2,500.
Netflix had earlier adjusted its pricing in April and July 2024. This new increase follows Nigeria’s ongoing cost-of-living crisis and weakening naira value.
Nigerians Struggle With Rising Living Costs
Many Nigerians are already finding it hard to keep up with the rising costs of essential services. Inflation continues to climb, and the naira has lost significant value in global markets.
Telecom providers recently increased their call and data tariffs by up to 50%. This means that most Nigerians now spend more on mobile and digital services.
Also, fuel prices, electricity tariffs, and basic food items have seen steady increases, stretching household budgets further.
A Lagos-based student shared her frustration: “Everything is expensive now. Even entertainment is no longer affordable.”
MultiChoice Also Raises DStv and GOtv Subscription Rates
In addition to Netflix, other entertainment providers have also increased their prices. MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, raised subscription fees for its packages starting March 1, 2025.
The DStv Compact bouquet now costs ₦19,000, up from ₦15,700. Compact Plus jumped from ₦25,000 to ₦30,000. The premium DStv package now costs ₦44,500, up from ₦37,000.
For GOtv users, the Jinja plan rose to ₦3,900 from ₦3,600. The Jolli package now costs ₦5,800, an increase from ₦4,850. GOtv Max went from ₦7,200 to ₦8,500. The Supa and Supa Plus plans now cost ₦11,400 and ₦16,800, respectively.
So far, Netflix has not released any official statement to address concerns from its Nigerian subscribers regarding the price increases.
