Collation Of Govship Election Result In Kogi State Postponed As APC’s Usman Ododo Appears Set For Victory

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will complete the collation of governorship election results for Kogi at 7pm, Sunday.

Gabriel Longpet, the resident electoral commissioner said at least three Local Government Areas results were unavailable necessitating the shift.

Results so far available show the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate Usman Ododo in a comfortable lead, but opposition parties are crying foul.

Dino Melaye of the People Democratic Party (PDP) called for the total cancellation of the election. He said the election results being collated were “cooked”, and “can’t be accepted” and he demanded, “Total cancellation is the answer.”

Official results so far show Melaye was defeated even in his home local government area of Ijumu by the Usman Ododo with 10,524 to Melaye’s 6,909 votes.

Candidate of the Social Democratic Party SDP, Murtala Ajaka on his part submitted a request to INEC for cancellation of the elections throughout Kogi Central because the results from all five local government areas of the district were, according to him, unacceptable.

Both Ajaka and Ododo of the APC as well as incumbent Governor, Yahaya Bello, are all from Kogi Central.

Results show All Progressive Congress currently leading other candidates by wide margin in at least 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Kogi State already declared by INEC.

Usman Ododo outrightly won in 11 LGAs, while Muri Ajaka won in 6. Mr. Dino Melaye has won no LGA as at the time of this report.
