Suspected kidnappers have killed Alhaji Garba Buba, chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rantan ward, Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State, in an attack that also claimed the life of another resident.

The attackers reportedly invaded the Rantan community on Sunday night, opening fire on residents before fleeing the scene.

A resident, Hamza Isah Rantan, confirmed the attack in a Facebook post, saying gunmen struck the community on Sunday night.

He said Buba was shot during the attack and later died in hospital while receiving treatment, while another resident, Sulaiman Zunduma, who was also shot, died instantly at the scene.

“On Sunday night kidnappers attacked our town, Rantan, where they shot Alhaji Garba Buba, the APC ward chairman in Rantan, who later died in a hospital. They also killed another resident, Sulaiman Zunduma,” Hamza wrote, adding a prayer for the victims and the injured.

Attack Follows Recent Abduction Of Kano Monarch

The Kano killing comes only hours after the rescue of the Sarkin Noman of Kano State, Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo Chiromawa, a traditional title holder who had been abducted by gunmen in the Chiromawa community in Garun Malam Local Government Area.

Five people were reportedly shot and injured during that earlier attack, which occurred at about 11 p.m. on Saturday, underlining a wave of violence hitting communities across the state within the space of a single weekend.

Police authorities in Kano State are yet to issue a statement on the Rantan killings.

The lack of an official police account leaves several details of the attack, including the identity and possible motive of the gunmen, still unconfirmed, though the pattern fits a wider trend of kidnapping-related violence recorded in parts of northern Nigeria in recent months.

The killings have deepened concern among residents already on edge following the abduction of the Sarkin Noman days earlier, with both incidents pointing to the continuing vulnerability of rural communities in Kano State to armed attacks, despite ongoing security operations across the North-West region.
