The United Kingdom has announced how much foreigners must earn yearly to qualify for permanent residence.
The income rule applies to people living in the UK on a Skilled Worker visa or Care Worker visa who want to switch to indefinite leave to remain.
According to the UK government, applicants must show proof of at least £41,700 per year, which is about ₦76,677,876 at current rates. The figure is gross annual income.
The rule is not a flat figure for everyone. The occupation a person holds affects the threshold that applies.
This means two workers on the same visa type may face different income benchmarks depending on their job role. Applicants are advised to check specific requirements tied to their occupation codes before applying.
Those who cannot show the required earnings may not be eligible for settled status, no matter how long they have lived or worked in the UK.
For Nigerians and other Africans on Skilled Worker and Care Worker visas planning long-term stay, meeting and documenting the income level is now critical.
The UK Home Office publishes salary thresholds and occupation lists under its immigration rules. The Skilled Worker visa allows eligible workers to live and work with a licensed sponsor.
UK Also Shares Steps To Access eVisa
Meanwhile, the UK government has shared five steps to access eVisa after a visa decision. The steps are: apply for visa, wait for decision, create a UKVI account, prove identity and link account, and view eVisa online.
The eVisa is an online record of immigration status, replacing physical documents for many categories, according to GOV.UK.
The development comes as many Nigerians seek to understand new UK immigration changes.
