Unknown persons have destroyed property at the secretariat of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
The attack was reported on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
It happened barely one week after NDC supporters were assaulted in Enugu State, where one person was killed.
The NDC is one of the opposition parties fielding candidates across Nigeria for the 2027 general elections.
Its presidential candidate is Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State. His running mate is Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The party has offices in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Enugu Attack Claimed One Life
The Enugu State chapter of the NDC confirmed the death of one of its members, Nworie Christopher.
Christopher hailed from Affa in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.
He was shot during an attack on the party’s campaign office in the Government Reserved Area of Enugu.
The incident occurred on October 10, 2026.
The party said the deceased was among its supporters allegedly attacked by armed thugs.
The supporters had gathered at the campaign office of the party’s governorship candidate, Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa.
Christopher died from gunshot injuries he sustained during the attack.
No life was reported lost in the Edo incident as of the time of filing this report.
However, a video of the attack showed that property at the party’s office was destroyed.
Civil Society Raises Alarm Over Attacks
Civil society organisations and political commentators have raised the alarm over frequent attacks on party offices.
They warned that, if left unchecked, such violence could undermine the credibility of the electoral process.
In the footage showing the vandalised secretariat, a woman blamed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the attack.
“The last one happened in Enugu, where one person died. Now they have brought it to Edo. APC, your end is here,” she said.
The Edo attack is one of several incidents reported against NDC members in different states.
The party has alleged that persons loyal to the ruling APC carried out the attacks.
The APC has not responded to the allegation as of the time of filing this report.
Okonkwo Demands Accountability
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has reacted to the attack on NDC supporters in Enugu State.
Okonkwo is a lawyer and former spokesman of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council. He is now a prominent voice in the ADC.
He reacted via a post on his official 𝕏 account.
“The disruption of the NDC rally in Enugu State, which was scheduled to welcome its governorship candidate, Chinyeaka Oha, at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, and which resulted in the death of some NDC supporters, is deplorable,” he wrote.
He demanded that security agencies investigate the incident and arrest the culprits.
“The security agencies must thoroughly investigate this incident with a view to arresting the culprits and punishing them commensurately,” he said.
He warned that failure to hold attackers accountable could lead to anarchy.
“Hold attackers accountable or face anarchy. Anarchy prevails when security agencies fail, refuse or neglect to hold violent attackers accountable for their actions,” he said.
Okonkwo said the violence showed that the ruling party is desperate to capture power at all costs in 2027.
He asked Nigerians, especially indigenes of Enugu State, to confront electoral violence.
He said this would ensure that people can vote and their votes count in the 2027 general elections.
