Bandits have attacked four villages in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State, leaving eight people dead and 11 others injured.

The assailants struck Baraje, Kirijan, Shugu, Kauran Pawa, and Unguwar Jika around midnight, abducting one person and vandalising homes and business premises.

Multiple sources from the affected communities confirmed the incident, though the police command’s spokesperson could not be reached for comment.

A resident of Baraje, Malam Nura, told Nigerian Tribune that the attackers arrived at midnight, flashing torchlights and firing shots into houses.

He said the deceased had already been buried, while the injured were receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Funtua.

Residents lamented that the attack violated a peace treaty signed last year between the bandits and the communities.

The agreement had pledged both sides to act in ways that would promote peace.

Community members now fear the deal is no longer effective and have appealed to the government for urgent intervention.
