No fewer than 46 people were killed in Umogidi village of Entekpa-Adoka district, Otukpo of Benue state when armed bandits stormed the village shooting sporadically.

The son of the Chairman of the local government Bako Eje was among the victims.

The Chairman confirmed that at least 46 corpses were recovered.

Three people were reportedly killed in the same area by gunmen just 24 hours earlier.

There is no clear indication of the cause of the attack, but gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have been in running battle with Benue state security for many years.

The states’ Anti-open Grazing law which was intended to curb hostilities between herders and indigenous communities has not yielded the desired effect.
