Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have foiled a terrorist attack in Taraba State, killing two terrorists in the process.
Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, said troops advanced on 1 October to Tor Ikyeghgba village after receiving intelligence that bandits were converging there.
On arrival at the Powerline axis, the troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle. “The troops overpowered the terrorists with superior firepower, neutralising two,” the statement confirmed.
Recovered items included one locally made pistol, two Dane guns, three rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a Baofeng radio, one motorcycle, and other materials.
Operation Lafiya Nakowa
The army said the breakthrough forms part of Operation Lafiya Nakowa, the ongoing mission to flush out terrorists and criminal elements across Taraba State.
Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, praised the soldiers’ courage. “Their swift response, resilience, and professionalism remain commendable,” he said.
He assured residents of the army’s commitment to peace and security. He urged locals to support ongoing efforts by giving timely and credible intelligence to the troops.
Could this latest success mean terrorist groups in Taraba are losing ground, or are they merely regrouping for another assault?
