Politicians Behind Boko Haram to Undermine Tinubu – Orji Kalu Alleges

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Abia State governor [APC, Abia North], has accused some members of Nigeria’s political elite of supporting Boko Haram terrorists. He said they aim to destabilise President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Kalu made the statement during a television programme on Monday. He claimed that the recent Boko Haram attacks are being driven by political motives.

“The political class is behind Boko Haram. They are using terrorism as a tool to fight Tinubu, just like they did with past administrations,” he said.

When asked to name those he referred to, Kalu pointed to politicians, wealthy businesspeople, and top civil servants.

“People in the political class are the ones fuelling Boko Haram. This is a political war. Some of them aren’t after money—they’re after power. They want to tear down the system just to grab control, and that’s not how power should be acquired,” he said.

Recent Boko Haram Attack Raises Alarm

Kalu’s statement came just after Boko Haram insurgents killed nine passengers using improvised explosive devices. The attack happened in Mairari Village, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, described the attack as “inhumane.” He called on the military to strengthen its presence and reclaim the area from Boko Haram control.

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno also expressed concern over the increasing number of terrorist attacks in the state. He said the government is doing its best but needs more support from the federal authorities.

Kalu Urges Nigerians to Unite Against Terrorism

Kalu warned that Nigeria’s worsening insecurity is not only about money but also about power struggles. He accused some powerful individuals of creating chaos to advance their political ambitions.

“The insecurity in Nigeria is politically induced. These individuals—politicians, businessmen, civil servants—are not just seeking financial gain. They’re looking to hijack political power,” he said.

The senator called on Nigerians to be more united and patriotic.

“If we consider ourselves friends and patriots, we should care about the ordinary Nigerian. We must work together to build a better country,” Kalu urged.

He noted that it is unpatriotic to tear down the country just to grab power. He also advised political leaders to focus on solutions instead of causing further harm to the nation.
