The Nigerian Army has declared that expanding its aviation wing is now a strategic game-changer in confronting the country’s evolving security threats.

Speaking during a visit by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defense to Army Headquarters in Abuja, Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu said advanced helicopters and unmanned aerial systems are critical force multipliers that improve response time, intelligence gathering, and precision engagement across multiple theatres of operation.

He added that sustained funding, efficient procurement, and strong logistical support are essential to maintaining operational superiority.

“Maintaining operational superiority demands seamless integration of advanced aviation platforms and unmanned aerial systems with responsive administrative frameworks,” he stated.

“These capabilities are redefining battlefield dynamics and strengthening our ability to project power, dominate operational space and protect the civil populace,” he added.

The Army Chief also pointed to increased troop strength approved by President Bola Tinubu, noting that expanded barracks and improved welfare are necessary to sustain morale and cohesion.

The Defense Ministry pledged closer collaboration and improved resources to back the Army’s modernization drive.

Military authorities say the shift toward stronger air capability may help redefine battlefield dynamics against terrorists and insurgents and strengthen national security nationwide.
