Victor Boniface’s move to AC Milan has collapsed. The Nigerian striker failed his medicals after two days of tests in Italy.
The deal was almost done. Milan and Bayer Leverkusen had agreed on a €5 million loan fee with a €24 million buy option.
But the medical team flagged concerns over Boniface’s right knee, which has undergone multiple surgeries in the past.
“AC Milan call Victor Boniface deal off as Nigerian striker did not pass the medical tests,” Fabrizio Romano posted on X.
“If Boniface comes back to Leverkusen, the AC Milan deal will be over. That’s no big secret,” said Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes.
Boniface returned to Germany on Sunday, ending the transfer talks.
Old Injuries, New Setback
Boniface has battled injuries for years. He tore his ACL twice while at Bodo/Glimt and missed several Bundesliga games last season due to muscle issues.
Despite this, he scored 8 goals and made 1 assist in 15 appearances for Leverkusen in the 2024/25 season.
He was also part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, though his fitness was uncertain.
Italian media reported that Milan’s doctors were worried about long-term damage to his knee. The club ran four separate medical checks before pulling out.
Milan sporting director Igli Tare said, “We knew he had problems in the past. His qualities are undeniable. We are just trying to make the right decision for this situation.”
Milan Eyes Conrad Harder
With Boniface out, Milan has turned to Sporting CP’s Conrad Harder. The 20-year-old Danish striker scored 11 goals last season and is seen as a rising star.
Reports say Milan is ready to pay €27 million for Harder, with talks already underway.
Boniface, meanwhile, faces a tough road ahead. His failed move to Al Nassr earlier this year due to similar issues adds to the pressure.
