Two individuals lost their lives, and 19 others were injured on Thursday January 2, when a small aircraft crashed into a furniture manufacturing facility in Southern California, where around 200 employees were present.
The California tragedy is one of several air mishaps since December 2024.
The Fullerton Police Department reported that the deceased were likely the aircraft’s occupants, while those injured were inside the building. Eleven individuals were transported to nearby hospitals, and eight received on-site treatment.
The plane went down less than two minutes after departing from Fullerton Municipal Airport, approximately 6 miles from Disneyland. Security footage showed the plane tilting before crashing, resulting in a fiery explosion and thick black smoke.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and evacuated nearby businesses. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identified the aircraft as a single-engine, four-seat Van’s RV-10 and is investigating the incident alongside the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
The Fullerton City Council expressed condolences, calling the incident a “solemn tragedy,” and Mayor Fred Jung said the community always pull together to support one another in times of crisis.
This crash follows a prior incident in November, where another small aircraft crashed during an emergency landing, causing moderate injuries to two passengers.
Fullerton, with a population of around 140,000, is located about 25 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
