Canadian Police Arrest Nigerian Woman For Threatening Yoruba and Edo Persons

In Canada, the Toronto Police have arrested Amaka Sonnberger, the 46-year-old Nigerian-Canadian woman, who threatened to poison and kill some members of Yoruba and Edo communities in Canada.

The arrest followed the viral audio recording in which Amaka, during a TikTok discussion, expressed intentions to harm her Yoruba colleagues in her work place. The threats, which were posted online around August 25, 2024, sparked outrage, leading to calls for her arrest by Ohanaeze Ndigbo among others.

Amaka will be charged for hate-motivated crime, according to a police statement, and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on September 2, 2024.

Toronto Police have urged anyone with further information to come forward.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, Amaka, in a subsequent audio message, dismissed the threats of arrest and deportation because of her Canadian citizenship.
