Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has officially sworn in 17 newly elected Local Government Council chairmen and their deputies in a ceremony held in Enugu. Their election took place on Saturday 21, 2024. Not surprisingly, the governor’s Peoples Democratic Party won all 17 seats.

During the Monday swearing-in event, the governor emphasized the need for immediate action and the fulfillment of campaign promises, urging the new chairmen to prioritize tangible results for the people of the state.

In his address, Governor Mbah reiterated that the “era of promises is over,” calling on the chairmen to align with the state’s development vision under the mantra, “Tomorrow is Here.” He said it was urgent to start addressing the challenges affecting progress and called for innovative solutions that disrupt outdated systems.

The governor further stressed the importance of local leaders being physically present in their constituencies, stating that working remotely from the city would no longer be acceptable. “You must relocate to your LGAs and be with your people,” Mbah declared, adding that security and peaceful environments are essential for true development.

Mbah encouraged the chairmen to adopt a people-centered governance model, emphasizing the need to provide democracy dividends and reduce feelings of alienation among the populace.

He also highlighted the strong partnership between the state administration and the local councils, urging collaboration to create wealth, generate jobs, and provide essential amenities across the local governments.

I believe in your capacity to deliver, and I am eager to see the progress we will make,” the governor concluded.

The newly sworn-in chairmen are expected to begin work immediately, focusing on development projects and improving the well-being of their communities.
