The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final register of voters for the upcoming governorship elections in Edo State and Ondo State.
The final registers were approved at a meeting in Abuja. The register integrated new voters from the recent Continuous Voter Registration and successful applicants for transfer from other states.
In Edo, the number of registered voters was 2,629,025, with 52.11 percent being male and 47.89 percent being female. The youth aged 18-35 accounted for 37.4%, followed by middle-aged persons aged 36-49. The two age groups constitute 72.2% of the registered voters.
The occupational distribution of registered voters showed that 868,764 students constitute the majority of voters (33.5%), while 4,199 are Persons with Disability (PWD). This represents a 4.9% increase over the 2023 General Elections figure of 2,501,081.
In Ondo State, the number of registered voters is 2,053,061, with 50.36 percent male and 47.89 percent female.
The majority of voters are students (33.85%), with 1,782 being PWDs.
The detailed breakdown of the register for each state by Local Government Area, gender, age, occupation, and disability has been uploaded to the INEC website and social media platforms for public information.
INEC has fixed the Edo governorship election for September 21, 2024, while that of Ondo state will be held on November 16, 2024.
