Labour Party HQ Overwhelmed as Aspirants Rush to Pick Forms

The National Headquarters of the Labour Party in Abuja was crowded on Tuesday as political aspirants rushed to secure nomination forms ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The surge followed the party’s announcement of deadlines for expression of interest and nomination submissions across presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly positions.

Among early buyers was Peter Agada, who picked up the Presidential Nomination Form. Others included Gazo Jonathan Gbefwi, contesting the Nasarawa State governorship seat, and Prince Chioma Chinwo from Rivers State, also entering the governorship race.

The influx reflects growing political interest in the Labour Party as it prepares for another national election cycle.

Party spokesperson Ken Eluma Asogwa confirmed that the headquarters had been flooded with aspirants seeking nomination documents.

Major Names Join Presidential And State Races

According to Asogwa, several high-profile individuals obtained forms across different levels of government.

“crowds of aspirants aiming to participate in the 2027 general elections had thronged the party’s National Secretariat to acquire nomination forms.”

In the legislative category, Philip Agbese is contesting the Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwe Federal Constituency in Benue State, while Maj. Kenneth Obiabo Ehoche is running for Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency.

In Adamawa State, Ishaya Timothy Yohanna is seeking the Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency seat.

Others include Hon Dennis Chibuzor Oshai for Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in Delta State, and Eric Edward for Hong State Constituency in Adamawa.

The wave of aspirants also includes Mohammed Hayatu Atiku, who is contesting the Uba/Gaya State Constituency seat.

Senior Political Figures Enter The Contest

Among the notable entrants is Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, former First Lady of Ondo State, who obtained a Senate nomination form for Imo East Senatorial District.

Her entry adds to the widening list of experienced political actors seeking legislative roles under the Labour Party platform.

The growing number of applicants reflects intensified competition within the party structure ahead of candidate selection processes.

As the deadline approaches, party officials are expected to continue processing nominations while managing the high volume of aspirants at the headquarters.

The situation highlights Labour Party’s expanding political base and rising visibility across multiple states ahead of the 2027 elections.
