Southwest Leaders Plot Massive Votes for Tinubu Re-election

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s Southwest region have resolved to deliver an overwhelming number of votes for President Bola Tinubu in the January 16 election.

The leaders met in Lagos and decided to work assiduously to surpass the votes the President received in the 2023 election in his home geopolitical zone.

The meeting was convened by the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) Directorate of Mobilisation and Stakeholders Engagement, Southwest Zone, led by former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN).

Ten key party chieftains from each of the six Southwest states converged on an Ikeja hotel for an assessment of the party’s mobilisation and stakeholders’ engagement across local governments and wards.

Fashola Calls for Total Mobilisation

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Obafemi Hamzat, Fashola, former Ondo State Governor Segun Mimiko, and former Ekiti State Governor Niyi Adebayo addressed the meeting.

Fashola said total mobilisation and effective stakeholder engagement would deliver maximum votes to the President.

He said since the presidential election is a matter of rotation between the North and the South, the South should retain power in 2027.

He called for unity and cohesion in the Southwest. “We understand that there are aggrieved people. Those who won tickets and are on the verge of victory should embrace those who lost so that they can work together,” Fashola said.

Mimiko said the Southwest family is satisfied with the President’s work in the region and the country. “There is a unanimity that we are all going to vote for President Tinubu. There is elite consensus on most of the national questions, including state police, and the policing architecture would soon be decentralised,” he said.

Ondo Governor Meets Ministers Ahead of Rally

Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa met with three ministers from the state in Abuja on Monday night.

The ministers were Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (Interior), Taiwo Oyedele (Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy), and Ayodele Olawande (Youth).

The meeting was held ahead of the APC presidential campaign rally scheduled for November 11 in Akure.

It was the first meeting between Aiyedatiwa and the three ministers since their appointment to the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

A source said the meeting signaled a renewed understanding between Aiyedatiwa and Tunji-Ojo, whose political differences had fueled speculation about divisions within the Ondo APC.

The leaders agreed to put their differences behind them and work towards the success of Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 presidential election.
