Dangote Refinery Raises Petrol Price By ₦85 Per Litre

Date:

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has raised its gantry price for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly called petrol, by ₦85 per litre.

The refinery lifted the price from ₦1,265 to ₦1,350 per litre, a 6.7% increase, according to pricing updates tracked by industry platforms including Petroleumprice.ng.

The gantry price is what the refinery charges marketers who load fuel directly at its depot, before the product reaches retail pumps.

The adjustment mainly affects marketers who buy directly from the refinery. However, it could ripple into retail pump prices nationwide if those marketers pass the added cost on to consumers.

Why The Price Keeps Moving

Dangote’s ex-depot price has changed several times in 2026, tracking swings in global crude oil prices and shifts in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum market.

The downstream sector — the part of the oil industry that refines, distributes and sells fuel to the public — was fully deregulated by the federal government, meaning prices are now set by market forces rather than fixed by the state.

A higher ex-depot cost typically feeds into transport fares and the running costs of businesses that depend on fuel, in addition to household spending, if marketers raise pump prices to match.

According to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission‘s Fuel Marketers Association updates, past hikes at the refinery have prompted similar increases at private depots and retail outlets within days.

The latest increase adds fresh pressure on petrol prices, which remain sensitive to crude oil costs, the naira’s exchange rate and domestic supply conditions in the coming weeks.
