President Bola Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Nigeria’s new Minister of Power, pending Senate confirmation.
The announcement was made in a statement signed on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
The nomination follows the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office in Oyo State.
“Mr Tegbe, from Oyo State, is a fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience spanning the public and private sectors,” the statement read.
He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, and governance.
Tegbe has advised government institutions and private sector organisations on strategic reforms, regulatory frameworks, and investment structuring.
Currently, he is Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria‑China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), responsible for strengthening bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and China.
The NCSP coordinates engagements with public sector stakeholders to advance economic and social development in line with FOCAC objectives.
Power Sector Experience And Expectations
Tegbe’s experience includes significant engagements within the power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reform involving the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).
“His nomination is expected to strengthen further ongoing efforts to reform the power sector, enhance grid stability, and attract sustainable investment in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement added.
President Tinubu expects Tegbe, once confirmed, to bring his expertise to bear in advancing reforms and delivering improved outcomes for Nigerians in the power sector.
