Nottingham Forest are in advanced discussions to appoint Portuguese coach Vítor Pereira as their new head coach following the dismissal of Sean Dyche, according to multiple reports in the English media.
Nottingham Forest have moved quickly to identify a successor to Sean Dyche after parting ways with the former Everton manager earlier this week.
The decision came after a disappointing run of results that culminated in a goalless draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, leaving the club hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.
Several British outlets reported on Thursday that Forest have opened talks with Vítor Pereira, who is understood to be the club’s preferred candidate for the role.
While no official confirmation has yet been issued by the club, negotiations are believed to be progressing positively.
Pereira, 57, is no stranger to English football, having previously managed Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he guided the club to Premier League survival during a difficult campaign.
He has also enjoyed spells with clubs across Europe, Asia and South America, including Porto, Fenerbahçe, Olympiacos and Flamengo.
His possible appointment is seen as a strategic move by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who worked with Pereira during their time at Olympiacos. That prior relationship is thought to be a key factor behind Forest’s interest in the Portuguese tactician.
Sean Dyche’s departure followed just a short spell in charge at the City Ground. Forest have struggled for consistency this season, prompting the club’s hierarchy to seek a change in direction as the battle to avoid relegation intensifies.
If appointed, Pereira would become the club’s latest managerial change in a turbulent campaign that has already seen several Premier League clubs replace their head coaches.
Forest are currently positioned in the lower half of the table, with only a narrow points gap separating them from the relegation places.
The club is expected to make an official announcement once contractual details are finalised. Until then, Forest remain focused on stabilising their form as they prepare for upcoming league fixtures.
