Former Arsenal Midfielder Partey Faces Two New Rape Charges in UK

Former Arsenal and current Villarreal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with two additional counts of rape in the United Kingdom, prosecutors said on Thursday, bringing the total number of alleged offences against the Ghana international to eight.

Thomas Partey, 32, a Ghanaian professional footballer widely known for his time at Arsenal and currently playing for Spanish club Villarreal, has been charged with two further counts of rape by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the UK, authorities confirmed on Thursday.

The new charges come after an additional complainant who came forward in 2025 with allegations that relate to non-recent offences allegedly committed in 2020.

The Metropolitan Police say the fresh allegations were first reported in August 2025, prompting a renewed investigation into the matter.

Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 13 March 2026 in connection with the two new counts.

The additional charges increase the total number of rape counts now facing Partey, who previously appeared at Southwark Crown Court in September 2025 and pleaded not guilty to five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving three alleged victims.

Those earlier alleged offences are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022 when Partey was a first-team regular at Arsenal.

The CPS statement authorizing the new charges said: “These new charges relate to a separate report of non-recent offences in 2020 involving one additional woman and follow a new investigation by the Metropolitan Police.”

Partey’s Run with the Law

Partey, who left Arsenal in June 2025 when his contract expired and subsequently signed for Villarreal, has consistently denied all of the allegations against him.

His legal team previously said he had cooperated fully with police throughout the investigations and welcomed the opportunity to clear his name in court.

Under UK bail conditions, Partey is permitted to continue his professional football career, provided he complies with travel notification requirements and refrains from contacting any alleged complainants.

He remains a member of the Ghana national team and is expected to be involved as the Black Stars prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup match against England on 23 June.

As with any criminal case, Partey is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and the judicial process is expected to continue with further hearings in the coming months.

Rape is a very serious allegation and should never be taken lightly. At the same time, justice must be based on proper investigation and clear evidence. In the case involving Thomas Partey, it is important to allow the law to take its full course so that the truth can be established and fairness done to everyone involved.
